Conservation and Creativity:
Comparative experiences of creativity for the conservation of Istanbul’s Cultural Heritage Sites
Subject-focused approaches with the public, NGO’s and experts
December 21- 22, 2010, Istanbul
The symposium aims to identify a diagnostic based on international norms concerning the monuments protected within the World Heritage Site of İstanbul. With a professional outlook, it seeks to open discussion towards a methodological framework that facilitates a rethinking of the methods of conservation initiatives. The motto being “conservation through innovation”, the meeting will bring together a diverse group of motivated speakers of various professional backgrounds from around the world in order to promote the management of cultural heritage as an information-oriented process.
The symposium will be an occasion to inquire about the role of creativity and the relations between the public, NGOs, and professionals involved in the conservation processes of cultural heritage sites, and to discuss various case studies presented by academicians, professionals, and NGO representatives brought together to share experiences on different levels, including:
-the rehabilitation of urban settlements;
-the conservation of monuments and archeological sites;
-the restoration and management of city walls.
