Mapping Emotional Shifts and Histories in Turkey’s Modernization: From Ottoman Inferiority to Republican Honor in Falih Rıfkı Atay’s Reflections Seeking to reflect the emotional landscape of the Early Republican Period, emotional terms and expressions in the works of Falih Rıfkı Atay, such as "inferiority" (aşağılık duygusu), "honor" (şeref), and "happiness" (saadet) is going to be scrutinized in this seminar. It will investigate how these emotional concepts played a crucial role in guiding society from a feeling of inferiority to one of honor and in establishing a new "emotional regime." Besides, this seminar intends to explain how the early republic's emotional-historical narrative was legitimized by elites, as represented in Falih Rıfkı Atay's reflections. |
